The Marshall Momentum Award
A scholarship for our students going on to university. It returns part of what your family invested in tutoring, paid directly to the student.
Why this exists
Parents invest in tutoring to give their children the best possible start. Good tutoring builds real momentum and I want to ensure that momentum doesn’t stop at high school.
This award turns a portion of the investment made with Alan Marshall Maths Tutoring into continued, direct support throughout university.
It is not a discount and it is not a refund. It is money paid directly to the student, once they have earned their place.
How much
The award is set by how many exam years the student completed with us.
How it is paid
Your award is paid in two instalments each academic year, not one lump sum. Depending on your tier, that is £250, £500 or £750 twice a year.
As the year starts
Half of your award for that year, paid as the academic year begins.
After the winter break
The other half of your award for that year.
Payments run for each year of your course, up to a maximum of four years.
What we need from you. Before the September instalment, confirmation of your enrolment for the year ahead and evidence that you passed the previous year. Before the January instalment, confirmation that you are still on the course. A student status letter or an enrolment screenshot is enough.
Who can apply
- Any student starting a full time undergraduate degree at a UK university.
- Anyone who completed at least twelve months of study with Alan Marshall Tutoring.
- A solid record on attendance, Building Block assessments and tutor feedback.
- You must have done, or be willing to do, our Study Skills course.
Former students count
You do not need to be studying with us now. A student who did National 5 with us and then sat Higher alone still qualifies. A student who sat Higher with us in fifth year and did no maths in sixth year still qualifies.
We keep a list of everyone past the twelve month mark, and we email it when applications open.
The Study Skills condition. Every applicant completes our Study Skills course, with no exemption, including students who were with us before the course existed. If you have not done it yet, you get access once you are announced as a recipient, and you complete it during your first semester at university. Your September payment is unaffected. Your January payment is released once you have finished the course and submitted a short written reflection of around 300 words, covering which techniques you used, how you applied them to university work rather than school work, and what changed.
Students in England count too.
If you studied with us for your GCSEs and are going on to a UK university, you apply on exactly the same terms. Your tier is set by the number of exam years you spent with us, whatever the qualification.
How to apply
- Complete the short application form.
- Write a personal statement of no more than 300 words, on what you are going on to study and what your time with us meant to you.
- Submit by 31 August 2026.
Where more than two students apply, we look at length of time with us, overall performance record, and the personal statement.
An optional paid role
Recipients are offered a small paid role during their degree. It is entirely optional and never a condition of the award.
- Sitting in the background of live classes.
- Mentoring students working towards the stage you have just come through.
- Occasional appearances in Study Skills sessions.
The hours are light and agreed around your studies.
